The Social Security Corporation has Announced the Beginning of Nominations for the Award in Occupational Health and Safety Excellence

As per the press statement issued by SSC Information Center, SSC has announced the beginning of nominations for this year's Award in Occupational Health and Safety Excellence for enterprises and individuals starting from the 10th of July until the 15th of September.

The press statement affirmed that the corporation's initiative to allocate this award stems from its great interest in Occupational Health and Safety topics regarding their positive reflections on laborers, enterprises and the national economy. Furthermore, it comes as a reflection of one of SSC’s main national duties represented in providing social protection for the insured within the provisions of the Social Security Law and as an embodiment of its social and economic role in society, which is a very important role reflecting its care for the laborer as an essential element of production and development, and based on its belief that keeping laborers safe and sound is a common national responsibility which must be taken into consideration and on which all parties must collaborate to achieve success.

Moreover, the press statement emphasized that this award aims to enhance Occupational   Health and Safety measures, improve the quality of workplace environments at operating enterprises in a manner that reflects the protection of the workforce, assure the safety of laborers and society through promoting and encouraging exceptional performance in respect to the field of Occupational Health and Safety, and honor as well as celebrate distinguished individuals and enterprises in this regard in order to eliminate work injuries, particularly at workplaces where work injury rates are high. In addition, this award seeks to encourage the appreciation, protection and respect for the life of all human beings and assure the safety of all laborers regardless of their nationalities and ethnicity.

The press statement indicated that the award will be granted to those who have demonstrated excellent compliance with the laws and regulations of Occupational Health and Safety and consequently reduced the rate of work injuries, as well as conducted outstanding studies and research related to Occupational Safety and Health topics, and been involved in distinguished activities and field initiatives that have improved the level of Occupational Health and Safety and succeeded in reducing the number of work injuries.

The general conditions for eligible nomination require the nomination subject be compatible with the goals, objectives, programs and directions of the award, and ensure the completion and submission of the nomination application form within the specified dates. As for the nature of nominees the award accepts all Jordanian and non-Jordanian individual(s) nominees. Also, the nominee may be an authority, enterprise or governmental or private institution provided that is licensed, registered and has been actively operating for a minimum of the last two years continuously, and employs no less than 20 employees. This is while noting that the winning nominee is illegible to receive this award more than once every three years.

The press statement also confirmed that the SSC welcomes all individual contributions represented in the submission of research and remarkable studies handling any of the topics related to Occupational Health and Safety, provided that these studies abide by the academic and scientific approach used in research and documentation. Further to the point, they should assure the use of sound methods and provide a quality of work reflecting a sense of creativity. In addition, they should add a scientific and/or economic value, and be original and remarkable so they are neither quoted nor taken from the material of another person. A minimum of two printed or copied copies of each study and/ or research must be submitted. The work can be submitted in either English or Arabic although a study extract in Arabic should still be included, and it must not have been published more than two years prior.

The mechanism of assessing received nominations; shall be processed through the formation of a committee for evaluation and an examination panel, both will study the nominated applications, and winners will be determined according to a scientific and entirely objective basis and with the highest level of integrity and objectivity. Then, winners will be celebrated and honored in a ceremony held specifically for this purpose by the corporation.

The corporation also expressed its hope that this Award in Occupational Health and Safety Excellence will help to spread awareness between laborers of the importance of safety measures as well commitment to them. Furthermore, it hopes to urge employers to provide appropriate working environments that provide the required protection for laborers and their properties and in turn encourage an increase in their productivity.
